Caption

Cydonia region of Mars, satellite image. This region is located in the Arabia Terra region on Mars and belongs to the transition zone between the southern highlands and the northern plains. Cydonia itself is covered in numerous mesas (flat-topped landforms) and may have been a coastal zone, as it is thought that the northern plains were once ocean beds. The image was taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA's Mars Express spacecraft, on 22nd July 2006. The ground resolution is approximately 13.7 metres per pixel.
