Caption

Martian sediment layers, satellite image. This feature is located in the Mare Australe region of Mars. It is a remnant of what was once a much larger area of layered sediments. The current structure has been exposed by erosion. An impact crater is at upper left. This image, which is about 5 kilometres wide, was obtained in January 2004 by the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) on the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft.
