Optical image of nebula NGC 1977. It forms part of the great Orion Nebula, lying half a degree north of the main body of the Nebula. The blue colour marks NGC 1977 as a "reflection nebula" in which dust grains in the cloud reflect the radiation of the brighter stars. Reflection nebulae usually appear blue because blue light is scattered more than red light. The two bright stars at centre are 42 and 45 Orionis.
