The massive Trapezium stars (centre) lie within a cluster of very young stars that form the nebula's core, illuminating surrounding gas and dust. The nebula lies around 1500 light years away in the constellation of Orion. The image is a composite of images taken by the Very Large Telescope at Cerro Paranal, Chile.***.
