Orion nebula. Coloured infrared image of the Orion nebula. A cluster of very young stars forms its core, illuminating surrounding gas and dust. Traces of a huge outflow of gas from a young stellar object lying behind are seen (pink). The nebula lies 1500 light years away in the Orion constellation. The image is a composite of images taken by the Very Large Telescope at Cerro Paranal, Chile. BY ESO OF ANY PRODUCT, SERVICE OR ACTIVITY.
