Orion nebula. Coloured infrared image of the Orion nebula. A cluster of young stars forms its core. The Trapezium stars (upper left) produce intense ultraviolet light and winds that interact with molecular gas to form the Bright Bar (green ridge, lower left). The nebula lies 1500 light years away in the Orion constellation. The image is a compo- site of images from the Very Large Telescope at Cerro Paranal, Chile.
