Caption

Orion nebula (M42 and M43). This is a large, relatively nearby starbirth region in the constellation of Orion. M42 (upper left) is the brightest part of the nebula, and contains a very young cluster of stars called the Trapezium. M42 is separated from M43 (centre right) by a dark dust lane. The nebula is part of a much larger cloud of gas called the Orion Complex, which lies between 1500 and 1600 light years from Earth.
