Second in a series of 6 artist's impressions illustrating the formation of a new star, such as the Sun. A great swirling cloud of interstellar dust & gases floats gently in space. Pressure waves from a nearby supernova, an exploding star (centre right), disrupt the cloud, forming small eddies & currents. Eventually the cloud will begin to contract, the first stage in the formation of a new star. As one star dies, another is born.
