Star forming region. Infrared image of the star forming region RCW38. Very young stars are seen among clouds of the dense gas and dust which is their raw material. RCW38 is about 5000 light years from Earth, and can not be seen at normal visible wavelengths. This image was made with the 8.2-metre Very Large Telescope 'Antu' at Cerro Paranal Observatory, Chile.
