Star forming region. First known infrared image of the star forming region IRAS 20306+4005. Very little is known of this object, other than it appears to be an active region of formation of massive stars. Infrared-bright gas filaments surround a cluster of young stars still embedded in the molecular cloud from which they formed. A dark band of dust obscures background stars just above the cluster. This image was made as part of the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) project.
