Star formation. Supercomputer simulation of an embryonic star (centre white spot) forming in a molecular cloud core, surrounded by a spiralling cloud of gas (orange to red). The image is the product of a supercomputer simulation of a pair of binary stars interacting under a high magnetic field. Over the course of the simulation, the stars have collapsed to form a single entity. Supercomputers help scientists understand how magnetic fields influence star formation.
