Caption

Orion and Canis Major constellations. Optical image of the constellations Orion (upper centre) and Canis Major (centre right) over a cliff. Orion is one of the most prominent constellations, and contains the striking group known as Orion's belt, made up of three equally bright stars equally spaced (upper centre). To the left of Orion's belt, along the same line, is the star Sirius (Alpha Canis Majoris). This is the brightest star in the sky (excluding the Sun), and is also known as the Dog Star. Photographed over a mudstone cliff in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California, USA.
