Starfield with the constellations Canis Major (centre left), Orion (centre) and Taurus (right). Canis Major contains Sirius, the brightest star in the sky (centre left). Orion is one of the best known constellations. It contains the orange star Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis, upper right). Below and left of Betelgeuse is Orion's belt, composed of 3 stars of equal brightness equally spaced. Orion's sword, just below and to the left of the belt, contains the Orion nebula (visible as a pink area). This is a vast starbirth region. Taurus contains the bright star Aldebaran (Alpha Tauri, lower right). Photographed in Death Valley, California, USA.
