Optical photograph of M22 (NGC 6656), a globular cluster in the constellation of Sagittarius. M22 is the third brightest globular cluster in the sky and is the easiest to resolve into stars. Located about 9600 light-years away, and with a diameter of some 50 light-years, it has a population of about half a million stars.
