Star cluster. Optical image of the open star cluster NGC 2516 (lower right). North is at top. The bright star at upper left is Epsilon Carinae. Open clusters are groups of hundreds or thousands of young stars which are thought to have been born at around the same time from the same cloud of gas. The young stars of the cluster appear blue. NGC 2516 lies around 1300 light years away in the constellation Carina.
