Globular cluster. Optical image of the globular star cluster Omega Centauri (NGC 5139, lower right) in the constellation Centaurus, the centaur. North is at top. Omega Centauri is a ball of over a million stars which lies 16,000 light years from Earth. Globular clusters are found in a halo around the Milky Way and are thought to be very old structures.
