Globular star cluster M55 (NGC 6809), optical image. A globular cluster consists of a spherical collection of hundreds of thousands of stars orbiting a galaxy. M55 is found about 17,300 light years from Earth, in the constellation Sagittarius. This image was produced using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
