Photograph of Betelegeuse, the second brightest star in the constellation of Orion & the 12th brightest star in the sky. Also known as Alpha Orionis, it is a red supergiant star (spectral type M21) 520 light years away. It is a semi- regular variable star with a period of about 5.8 years. 22 min exposure.
