Star trails. Time exposure photograph of stars in the northern hemisphere. The streaks of light result from the rotation of the Earth in relation to the fixed stars. The purple hue of the sky is due to the Aurora Borealis (or northern lights), caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with the upper atmosphere. Photographed over the rim of Nicola River canyon, British Columbia, Canada.
