Alien planet. Artwork of the gas giant planet orbiting the star HD 70642 (lower left), seen from the surface of a hypothetical moon. This planet, called HD 70642b, was discovered in 2003. It is a Jupiter-like gas giant planet that orbits 3.3 astronomical units from its star. One astronomical unit is the distance between the Earth and the Sun (around 150 million kilometres). HD 70642b takes 2231 Earth days to complete one orbit. It has a mass twice that of Jupiter. HD 70642 is a Sun-like star that lies around 95 light years from Earth in the constellation Puppis.
