Free-floating planets. Artwork of two planets (dark spheres) moving through space. They are not orbiting a star, but have formed independently or been ejected from their parent system. They are called free-floating planets. Such objects have been detected in the starbirth region known as the Orion Nebula, some 1500 light years from Earth.
