Exoplanet HD 189733b. Computer artwork of a gas-giant exoplanet (a planet outside our solar system) transiting across the face of its parent star. The stellar system lies 63 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula. HD 189733b was discovered in 2005, and in 2007 observations from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope reported the first conclusive discovery of water in the atmosphere of an exoplanet. Follow-up observations made using the Hubble Space Telescope confirmed the presence of water vapour and also the organic compound methane.
