Optical image of the spiral galaxy NGC 253. It is found in the constellation of Sculptor at a distance of about 8 million light years from the Earth. It belongs to a sparse cluster of galaxies known as the Sculptor Group. The central region of the galaxy is populated by old, yellow stars whereas the outer regions of the spiral arms are occupied by blue, younger stars. The globular star cluster NGC 288 is also seen at bottom right. North is towards the top left corner.
