Caption

Peculiar galaxy NGC 3718. Coloured optical image of the unusual spiral galaxy NGC 3718, in the constellation of Ursa Major. NGC 3718 is classed as a peculiar spiral: a large dark dust swirl passes through the galaxy's centre, the galaxy's inner disc shows little structure and the outer arms look more like lobster claws and very different from the arms of a normal spiral galaxy. Image taken by the 4 metre telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, USA.
