Peculiar galaxy. Optical image of the peculiar galaxy NGC 4650A. The galaxy appears to have two components, an elliptical core (pink) and a younger perpendicular disk. The cause of this may be an ancient collision or merging of galaxies. NGC 4650A is 165 million light years from Earth. This image was made using the Very Large Telescope 'Antu' at the Cerro Paranal Observatory, Chile.
