Toroidal Universe. Artwork of a blue torus on a starfield background. Some cosmologists believe that the Universe may be shaped like a torus, a circular cylinder that has been bent round onto itself so that it resembles a doughnut. These cosmologists think that the visible Universe may lie on the surface of the torus like a strip of paper. The Universe might be bent round like this because gravity distorts space-time.
