Bubble universes. Computer artwork of universes connected by wormholes. One theory concerning black holes is that when they are formed the black hole also forms a tunnel, known as a wormhole. On the other side of the tunnel is a region of expanding spacetime that gives rise to new universes. As there are many black holes in a universe this process could lead to a series of interconnected universes, or a multiverse.
