Caption

Soviet space poster, produced for the World Exhibition in Brussels, Belgium, 1958. This poster was made after the USSR launched the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. Launched in October 1957, Sputnik 1 weighed just over 83 kilograms and orbited the earth 1400 times, transmitting a pulsed radio signal. Its orbit decayed and it lost contact after 21 days.
