Globalstar satellite launch. Rocket exhaust gases gathering at night around a Soyuz-Frigate rocket that is about to take off and launch four Globalstar communications satellites into Earth orbit. The satellites are contained in the upper stage which sits on top of the rocket stages beneath it. The Globalstar communications network of 52 satellites was completed in February 2000. This launch deployed spare satellites to replace ageing satellites that were beginning to fail. Photographed on 30 May 2007, at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.
