Melting ice. Block of ice melting. Ice made of pure water melts at 0 Celsius. Water with impurities dissolved in it will melt at a lower temperature. Water, unlike all other substances expands on solidification, making it less dense, and therefore causing the ice to float in water. This also allows marine life in the cold regions during winter.
