Launch of an Atlas rocket carrying an Agena unmanned docking target for the Gemini 11 mission. Gemini 11, carrying astronauts Charles Conrad and Richard Gordon, was also launched on 12 September 1966. They made a direct ascent to the docking rendezvous with the already orbiting Agena, making contact on their first revolution. The spacecraft remained docked for over 40 orbits. Gemini 11 re- entered safely with its crew on 9 September, whilst the Agena target burnt up after its orbit decayed on 30 December 1966.
