Apollo 9 spacewalk, 1969. The Command/Service Modules (CSM) nicknamed "Gumdrop", and the Lunar Module (LM), nicknamed "Spider", are docked together above the Earth (background) as Command Module pilot David R. Scott (centre) stands in the open hatch. Apollo 9 was an Earth orbital mission designed to test docking procedures between the CSM and LM as well as test the Lunar Module in the relatively safe confines of Earth orbit.
