Apollo 11 photograph showing the placing of the US flag on the surface of the moon for the first time. On the left of the flag is Commander Neil Armstrong and on the right is the Lunar module pilot Edwin E. Aldrin. Apollo 11 was the first manned lunar landing mission and was launched on 16 July, 1969. It landed on the moon on 20 July.
