Apollo 17 photograph of Lunar Module pilot Harrison H. Schmitt working with a lunar scoop to collect lunar soil samples. To the right, on top of a rock, stands a gnomon, a device used to calculate the altitude of the sun in the sky. Apollo 17 was the last manned lunar landing mission & was launched on December 7, 1972.
