Lunar Roving Vehicle during Apollo 15, August 1971. This mission saw the first use of this lunar exploration vehicle. The 4- wheel drive electric vehicle (also known as the LRV, or rover) covered 28 kilometres during the Apollo 15 mission of 26 July to 7 August 1971. The driver and passenger seats (centre right) and communications antenna (upper left) can be seen. Astronauts David Scott and James Irwin spent a total of 18.5 hours outside their spacecraft, carrying out three exploration trips (EVAs) with the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Photographed in the Hadley-Apenninie area of the Moon.
