Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). The Apollo 18 spacecraft photographed from the Soviet Soyuz 19 spacecraft during the joint US/Soviet ASTP mission. Apollo 18 and Soyuz 19 successfully docked in Earth orbit on 17 July 1975. The programme was intended to test a jointly-designed international docking mechanism. The US crew consisted of Thomas P. Stafford, Vance D. Brand & Donald K. Slayton. Aleksey A. Leonov & Valerii N. Kubasov made up the Soviet crew.
