Skylab space station. View of the Skylab space station as seen from the Skylab 3 Command Module (CM) during the "fly around" inspection before docking. The primary docking port at the forward end of the Multiple Docking Adaptor (centre right) is visible below the Apollo Telescope Mount (upper right). One solar array (far left) on the Orbital Workshop is extended; this was successfully deployed during a spacewalk on the first manned Skylab mission. Skylab 3 was launched on 28 July 1973 with three astronauts onboard: Alan L. Bean, Jack R. Lousma and Owen K. Garriott, who remained in the Skylab space station in Earth-orbit for 59 days. They erected a new sunshade for Skylab.
