Aboard were astronauts Kevin Kregel, Stephen Lindsay, Winston Scott, Kalpana Chawla, Takao Doi and Leonid Kadenyuk. Doi and Kadenyuk are Japanese and Ukrainian respectively. Doi was scheduled to make the first-ever Japanese spacewalk (Extra Vehicular Activity) during the mission.
