ISS crew eating. Expedition One crew eating in the Zvezda module of the International Space Station (ISS). From left, they are the American astronaut William Shepherd (mission commander) and the Russian cosmonauts Sergei Krikalev (flight engineer) and Yuri Gidzenko (Soyuz commander). The Expedition One crew were the first crew of the ISS (from 31st October 2000 to 21st March 2001). They arrived in a Soyuz capsule (now an ISS escape pod) and departed by Space Shuttle. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
