ISS astronauts. Astronauts Susan Helms (left) and Janet Kavandi in the Destiny laboratory module of the International Space Station (ISS). Kavandi arrived as part of the STS-104 crew on the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Helms is a member of the three- person Expedition Two crew that stayed aboard the ISS from 8 March to 22 August 2001. Mission STS- 104 (12-24 July 2001) installed the Quest airlock onto the ISS. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
