ISS crew about to eat oranges. Expedition One crew preparing to eat some fresh fruit in the Zvezda module of the International Space Station (ISS). They are, from left, cosmonaut Yuri P. Gidzenko (Soyuz commander), astronaut William M. Shepherd (mission commander) and cosmonaut Sergei K. Krikalev (flight engineer). Expedition One crew were the first crew of the ISS (from 31st October 2000 to 21st March 2001). They arrived in a Soyuz capsule and departed by space shuttle. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits Earth at an altitude of 350 kilometres.
