Russian re-entry capsule. Scorch marks are seen on the exterior from the capsule's passage through the atmosphere at high speed from space. Soyuz capsules were used to return to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) while the Space Shuttles were grounded following the Columbia disaster in 2003.
