CloudSat satellite. Computer artwork of NASA's CloudSat satellite observing rainfall. This satellite contains a very sensitive radar system for studying the structure and composition of clouds. It will also analyse how clouds affect solar energy distribution in the atmosphere. This information will help scientists better understand weather patterns and the global water cycle, and develop better climate prediction tools. CloudSat will be launched on 25 April 2006, together with the CALIPSO satellite, which will study the distribution of clouds and aerosols.
