SAC-A satellite in orbit above the Earth. This Argentinian research satellite was deployed on 13 December 1998 from the Space Shuttle Endeavour during mission STS-88 (4-15 December 1998). This small satellite was launched as part of NASA's Hitchhiker program to launch small satellites. It included several experiments designed to demonstrate the possibilities of future space technologies, including a GPS receiver to examine the usefulness of GPS on a spinning spacecraft, and a CCD camera and whale tracker, and a magnetometer. The satellite's orbit decayed on 25 October 1999. Photographed on 14 December 1998.
