Artist's impression of a "ramscoop" starship. Instead of carrying a large load of fuel, ram- propelled spacecraft would use the hydrogen atoms which are scattered throughout space. These hydrogen atoms would be collected by huge magnetic fields generated by the ship. In this painting, a damaged ramscoop starship is seen arriving at a planet which has already been colonised.
