Measuring specific heat capacity. Apparatus set up to measure the specific heat capacity of aluminium. An electrical heater (white cylinder), is sitting on top of a piece of aluminium metal. The power supply for the heater is at left (orange). A temperature probe (black stick) in the aluminium is connected to the computer (right), by a data logger (black box). A known amount of energy (heat) is supplied to the aluminium, which is of a known mass. The rise in temperature is recorded by the thermometer and displayed as a graph on the computer monitor.
