Caption

Antimatter drive spaceship at Jupiter, computer artwork. The magnetic containment ring at the rear of the spaceship contains and stores antimatter fuel. This theoretical spaceship would produce energy by the total annihilation that occurs when antimatter and matter meet. The efficiency is 100% as all the mass is converted to energy, producing 1000 times the energy of nuclear fission. Travel to the planets and stars would then be feasible. Antimatter is currently formed in small amounts in particle accelerators.
