Solar sail spaceship. Artwork of a theoretical vessel that has a series of large, sail-like, thin membranes connected together for sailing with sunlight. At top left are a pair of twin stars and and bottom right is an Earth-like extrasolar planet. Pressure accumulates through the reflection of countless photons of light, emitted by stars such as our Sun. This gradually moves the spacecraft. The acceleration would be very low but continuous, eventually allowing very high speeds to be attained.
