Natural gas storage tanks. These tanks are used to store natural gas, a fossil fuel obtained from underground oil and gas deposits. The natural gas is then distributed through pipelines to industry and homes. This is the Disna dispatch centre, in the Vitebsk region of Belarus. It is operated by Zapadtransnefteprodukt, a Russian company that delivers fuel from Russia to Europe. During 2007, there have been disputes between Russia and Belarus over the supply of fossil fuels, and there are fears that this may affect Russian supplies to Europe that pass through Belarus. The dispute began in January 2007, which is when this photograph was taken.
