View of part of an oil refinery. In the foreground is a gas flare, where small amounts of natural gas are burnt off. This is used where the volume of gas is not sufficient to justify extraction for commercial use. The twin columns in the background are part of the pre-heater, where the oil is heated prior to fractionation. The heating also makes the oil easier to pump. Several storage tanks may also be seen.
